Both of my grandmothers have passed on. But oh how I remember those great meals that they could cook. There was just something about that generation and cooking. It's like it meant something to cook great dinners. Everything was fresh, home made and simply delicious. My mother, God rest her soul and sister also cooked great meals. It seems that the recipes were passed down. One of my grandmothers spent most her life in Ohio and the other in Kansas. That might have something to do with it. Both my grandfathers were farmers. That also might have something to do with it.
However, today it's restaurants, fast food, frozen and what's available at the grocery store. Nothing could possibly compare with those farm style Midwest home cooked meals coupled with all the home made pies with the fruit picked right of the trees in the back yard.
Well, it's time to go eat. We are having barbecued chicken tonight, mashed potatoes, gravy and a nice veggie.
